OFFICIAL SHINOBI NINJA WEBSITE

SHINOBI NINJA ON MYSPACE

SHINOBI NINJA are the super group for the 21st century, composed of six colorful, vibrant New York City musicians and performers from different corners of the music world. “To put it simply, they are a walking, breathing and screaming cartoon: loud, colorful and full of enough energy to put nearly any other band to shame,” says New York’s Radio Exile. With their debut EP Brooklyn to Babylon and their own revolutionary video game Shinobi Ninja Attacks, the band is ready to bring the party to you, wherever you are! Onstage and online, Shinobi Ninja have built themselves a devoted following, garnering much-deserved attention from notable sources such as Mergent Music Magazine, who proclaimed the band were “taking over the world, one sweaty rock circus at a time.” That conquest begins now with Brooklyn to Babylon, a high-energy collection of eight party-starting tracks that have already been concert-tested for maximum enjoyment. The band will take their breakthrough to a wider audience one step further with the upcoming release of their own video game app, Shinobi Ninja Attacks. Designed for the iPhone, users are invited to play as their favorite member of the band, journeying through a cartoon New York while select Shinobi tracks play in the background. “These days, a lot of people are more into interactive multimedia experiences than just listening to music,” says drummer Terminator Dave. “So, we found a way to get our music out to people and get them to interact with the band in an exciting new way.” So far, the band has accomplished everything by staying true to their DIY work ethic. They’ve produced their own records. They’ve booked and promoted their own shows. And, like many of today’s up-and-coming groups, they’ve built a formidable web presence using social media platforms such as Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. “Up to this point, we’ve insisted on doing it all ourselves, all the way,” says Shinobi Ninja drummer Terminator Dave. This year they appeared on Fox 5’s FEARLESS MUSIC program, delivering unstoppable versions of “Brooklyn to Babylon” and “Nah Nah” live on-air. They’ve also built a reputation as one of New York’s most inspiring, dazzling live acts, winning over crowds at the CMJ and Afro Punk festivals. It all started at Progressive Studios, a Hell’s Kitchen haven for local musicians, where lead singer DA and bassist Adriano Morez were working as producers and engineers. Across town, Terminator Dave and his twin brother, guitarist Maniac Mike were working with local turntablist DJ Axis in their band Wax Machine while refining their own production skills at their home studio. The two groups came together for the first time when Maniac Mike showed at Progressive to lay down guitar parts for a session. The final ingredient was Baby Girl, a regular at Progressive herself taking vocal lessons from Sugarhill Gang’s Craig Derry and checking in for solo sessions with DA. Mike and Dave discovered her incredible talent onstage during her appearance at SXSW 2008. “She was performing with Santigold at the festival,” remembers Dave, “Mike and I were completely blown away at what an amazing singer and dancer she was. We were bragging to everybody, ‘That’s our friend up there!’” Looking back on her introduction into the fold, Baby Girl recalls being equally impressed with her new band mates’ skills. “I knew DA was an amazing producer and singer, but I had no idea the rest of the band were so good at what they do,” she says. “Once I found out, I said, ‘Y’all are dope, let’s do this.’” It wasn’t long before the musicians were partying together and fleshing out ideas for new music, sometimes crafting complete songs in a matter of hours. The tracks merged influences as diverse as Nirvana, Janet Jackson, Faith No More, Poison, Sublime, Metallica, Beastie Boys, and 311. “A lot of our sound comes from partying, it’s party music,” says Baby Girl. “But at the same time, it’s eclectic – it can appeal to all different audiences, and I think that’s the way it should be.” With this unbeatable group dynamic also came their unbeatable name. “The studio where we first recorded these tracks was my mom’s house,” says Dave, “which everybody thought looked like a ‘ninja house.’” DA, for one, was transported back to his childhood pastime of playing the classic Sega game Shinobi. The band had briefly considered naming themselves after one of their first tunes, “Brooklyn to Babylon,” but, as Dave says, “as soon as we told everybody we were Shinobi Ninja, they said, ‘That’s the f***ing best name I’ve ever heard!’” It stuck. Their boundless energy and creativity has resulted in the band’s smashing debut EP, Brooklyn to Babylon, with tracks such as “Rock Hood.” The song was originally a solo track from DA, inspired by the King of Pop: “I was thinking of Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana,’” he says, “and I just tried to write a song that was as good as that.” The resulting track is a funk-rock workout, embellished by scratches courtesy of DJ Axis, with an out-with-the-old, in-with-the-new attitude: “I could keep on talking but they just don’t get it/They wonder why I listen to the music I do/They’re old school so they really don’t know,” sings DA, half-crooning, half-rapping. “Brooklyn to Babylon” was also a formative moment for the band, which found the members working in an all-night session to assemble the bulk of this party-line call-to-arms – featuring nods to grunge, rap and reggae within the song’s first 30 seconds – in just one recording session. The instantly memorable chorus that begins the song can be seen as a playful statement of purpose for the band itself: “Daps to my homies mad love to my chicks/Hip-hop the Rock, I gotta get that fix.” Another standout is the Baby Girl showcase “Nah Nah,” again, a song written in a lightning-speed burst of inspiration between DA and the Baby Girl. “He encouraged me to make that beat myself,” says Baby Girl. “I didn’t think it was anything, but the rest of the band latched onto it and rocked it.” The song is a sassy shuffle, featuring Baby Girl’s seductive raps and the insistent, teasing refrain: “Nah Nah/You can’t get it/You can’t have it/You can’t grab it.” “’Extra’ is our motto,” says Dave. “When we play, Mike will be head banging while he’s finger tapping on his guitar, and Adriano will be jumping off a six-foot amplifier right in front of the microphone to sing. We live for this, and we love what we do – and you can tell when you watch us play.” With their must-see live gigs, their party-in-a-box debut EP and interactive video game, Shinobi Ninja are always going the extra mile to make you part of the excitement. And you’ll find the band’s irresistible funky rock hooks, energetic performance style and fun loving attitude will make you want to join the revolution.

VISIT ONE WIN CHOICE ON MYSPACE

Band Members: Justin, Dan, Dave, Solid, Ellis….Forever Family: Jon, Jack, and Tierney.

Background:

One Win Choice is melodic punk/hardcore from Ocean County, New Jersey. Set firmly in the traditions of DIY, we have been playing together, booking shows, recording releases, and folding inserts for years. All the while with the same goal: to play genuine, honest music infused with energy and aggression to deliver a positive, powerful message.

After releasing our debut full length, Never Suspend Disbelief in October of 2007, we’ve played hundreds of shows and spent as much time on the road as we have at home. 2008 was a good year for us, we toured with some really great people, played some shows with some of our favorite bands, and got to play both This Is Hardcore 2008 and the Fest 7.

Set to release in 2009 is our newest record, a 5-song E.P., titled Define Redefine. The E.P. was recorded in Tinton Falls, NJ by Mike Rummel and is definitely a more diverse offering of punk and hardcore than anything we’ve previously written. We hope you enjoy it.
Keep pressing on.

Booking/Contact Us: onewinchoice@gmail.com
Record Label: Jump Start Records

DEFINE REDEFINE:

“This album is a must-own.” – SicZine.com

“A reminder of what hardcore punk is meant to be like…there are few bands who have such a unique and fresh perspective on what they do, and One Win Choice definitely takes that to a different level.” -National Underground

“One Win Choice have definitely won me over…Great breakdowns, blistering fast blast beats, and good aggressive vocals define this record.” -Jersey Beat

“Everything about Define/Redefine makes you want to learn the words, with each song destined to be another slice of counter culture anthemia. The working class charm that emanates from One Win Choice puts them on in pole position in the melodic hardcore Formula 1.” – Collective Zine

“Everybody had better damn sure be listening, because One Win Choice is the real deal.” – Dryvetyme Onlyne

“Define Redefine is quite impressive to say the least. Keep an eye on these guys, they are young, ambitious, and full of talent.” – Thrash Magazine

“One Win Choice have become an ass-kicking outfit in their own right.” – Fistfight at the Arthouse

“Honest, fierce, and straightforward hardcore with a good dose of melody and a no-frills attitude.” – RockFreaks.net

“Define/Redefine is an album of battle calls and wake-up calls. Hardcore punk is still alive.” -Evil Needles

“These 5 songs are packed with a fiery energy and DIY spirit…injecting passion and integrity back into the genre.” – Go211

NEVER SUSPEND DISBELIEF:

“Fast, furious and really uplifting. The band’s debut album holds 12 anthems of punky hardcore that are likely to knock you off your feet.” -MutinyZine.com

“The perfect ingredients for a good time.” –Lucky13Zine.com

“It’s nice to hear some new-school hardcore that doesn’t immediately turn me off. There’s some great guitar work and good singing on “Never Suspend Disbelief,” but the best part is the lyrics. Each song is a long, drawn out thought that is full of substance and heart and inspiration.” -Maximum Rock n’ Roll

“One Win Choice is able to stand out from the swarm of bands who wish they could work in that much intensity in such a short amount of time.” -FortheSound.com

Smoke or Fire is the latest of gritty post-hardcore bands to emerge from the Southeast’s plentiful punk scene. Some say we are influenced by our predecessors like Hot Water Music and Avail, but we also blend in some additional elements of Americana with hints of The Replacements and Springsteen.

Our “debut” album, Above The City, was co-produced by Fat Mike and was released in March 2005. It’s 14 songs of socially-conscious Southern-fried punk rock from a band that relies on our musical merits rather than imagery gimmicks or a trendy sound. Fashion-core be damned, Smoke or Fire’s upbeat and earnest brand of rock flies in the face of the musical carpetbaggers prevalent today. Refreshing concept, no?

Big D and the Kids Table frontman David McWane has said, “There are people who want to be in a band and then there are musicians.” However once in while a group come along who decide to make music simply because they have no other choice—and those are the acts who tend to stick around. For the past fourteen years Big D And The Kids Table have proven that regardless of fame or poverty they will forever be addicted musicians—and their latest full-length Fluent In Stroll is the apex of their decade-and-a-half long career.

The best person who ever put it was [Warped Tour founder] Kevin Lyman, McWane explains. “My girlfriend once asked him if we were a big band and he replied, ‘I’ll tell you like this, they’ve been around for 14 years and each year they’re relevant.’ I think that’s a great description of what this band is all about.”

This fact is nowhere near as evident as it is on the band’s sixth proper full-length Fluent In Stroll, an album that sees this group of Bostonian college friends—McWane, guitarist Sean Rogan, bassist Steve Foote, drummer Derek Davis, trumpet player Dan Stoppelman, saxophonist Ryan O’Connor and trombone player Paul Cuttler—coming together to craft an album that defies categorization and takes the band’s ska-influenced sound to the next level. “This album reminds us of our very first record in the sense that instead of following any rulebook we were trying to have fun with our sound,” McWane explains. “I think we just naturally wanted to write a really positive record comprised of songs that were an absolute blast to play night after night on tour—and I think that’s exactly what we achieved this time around.”

Correspondingly Fluent In Stroll is a mix of hop-scotch, double-dutch, soul, ska and reggae that comes together to form a unique style of music McWane has coined “Stroll,” which is showcased via inventive tracks such as “Doped Up Dollies On A One Way Ticket To Blood” and “Fluent In Stroll”. “I think some of our older fans might be surprised by the more stroll-sounding songs because it’s a genre outside of itself, but in all honesty I think that these songs are way more ‘punk’ than most of the so-called ‘punk’ music out there,” McWane continues, adding the bands new Do Wop singers Simone and Nicole from the band Tip The Van and Boston solo artists Haley-Jane & Sirae came together to form the hop-scotch sound of The Doped Up Dollies. “Whenever anyone hears something new it takes a minute or two to catch up, but I think people will get it and love it!”

That said Fluent In Stroll, which was produced once again by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ bassist Joe Gittleman, still retains Big D And The Kids Table’s unique sound whether that’s via the laid-back Jamaican ska sound of “Been Wishing On” or the summertime jam “We Can Live Anywhere!”. “We weren’t allowed into the traditional ska band camp or the punk-ska camp, we never fit in anywhere,” McWane explains when asked if there’s a place where the band—who have played with everyone from Melt Banana to the Pietasters—feel like they belong. “We were just this weird band that some people could understand.” However instead of seeing this as a drawback, Big D have used their idiosyncratic sound to carve their own unique niche in an oversaturated musical landscape and have built a dedicated fan base in the process.

“I personally like shows where you have to prove yourself,” McWane responds when asked which of the band’s thousands of live performances stick out in his head. “The Warped Tours and the Dropkick Murphys tours that we did were cool because when you’ve been in a band for as long as we have and you get to play shows where you have to prove yourselves you have that same first-show anxiety,” he continues. “When you play the shows where everyone in the place loves you, then it turns more into entertaining—and that’s cool, but that’s not where I personally come from,” he elaborates. “That might sound kind of weird, but I like the underdog shows more because it adds a little bit of spice and kick to it.” The good news is that armed with a record as ambitious as Fluent In Stroll the band will undoubtedly have to prove themselves all over again in sweaty clubs all over the world.

“I think we have the same aspirations with this disc that we do with every record and that involves our little pow wow of saying, ‘Don’t you think music is shit?’” McWane—who is also an accomplished author currently working on a second book of poetry, a collection of Big D lyrics, two short films and a retrospective DVD about the band called Built Up From Nothing—explains when asked about his personal expectations for Fluent In Stroll. “Music groups have always recognized and applauded for creating something new and different for listeners, yet today it seems that artists are recognized for making what’s already been or what’s most the same,” he elaborates. “We really tried to push the envelope the way artists used to do and all we’ve ever wanted was to be able to play music in front of a lot of people that love our songs,” he summarizes. “If we could play on one stage in front of the world, we would do it.”

BIO…
Strike Anywhere is more than a band; Strike Anywhere is a movement, a sound and a force. The band’s incredibly solid career has spanned ten years across the globe, releasing four critically acclaimed albums while remaining a staple in the underground music scene since their inception. Comprised of Thomas Barnett (vocals), Eric Kane (drums), Matt Smith (guitar), Mark Miller (guitar), and Garth Petrie (bass), Strike Anywhere is undoubtedly one of the most influential melodic hardcore bands of our time. With release of their Bridge Nine Records debut, Iron Front, the momentum in Strike Anywhere’s career is just as strong as ever.
Formed in 1999 in Richmond, VA, Strike Anywhere has defied categorization and broken down walls of what it is to be punk. After their debut EP, Chorus of One, was released, Strike Anywhere teamed up with Jade Tree who issued Change Is a Sound in August 2001. The release of Exit English followed in 2003 and the rarities collection To Live in Discontent was released in January 2005. Strike Anywhere joined up with Fat Wreck Chords for their next full-length, the critically acclaimed Dead FM, which was released in June 2006 and saw the band touring the around world numerous times in support of the record.
Fast forward to 2009 and Strike Anywhere had fragments of song ideas, melodies, guitar progressions, rhythms, and lyrics that they’d put together over the course of the three years ready to assemble an album. These ideas were put together while the band was spending time overseas living and working in a rehearsal built by the Prague Nomads, in Czech, outside of the city. There, the band did a lot of crucial writing and fine-tuning of their collection of new songs. Upon their return, Strike got together a few more times in Richmond, VA in basements and warehouses to finish building what would become Iron Front. Vocalist Thomas Barnett said, “It’s interesting that we would have a lot of our writing time for the record done in Europe, because the LP title is a tribute and a homecoming of the Antifascist Circle’s creators and original activists and creators of an international antifascist movement. They were Europeans who were trying to combat the rise of fascism in Central Europe in the early decades of the last century.” Strike Anywhere teamed up with Bridge Nine Records for the release of their most emotionally and politically charged album yet, Iron Front, which will hit stores on October 6th, 2009.
Recorded by Brian McTernan at Salad Days in Baltimore, Iron Front packs the intensity and ferocity that Strike Anywhere had in their heads and hearts throughout the writing process. Barnett went on to say, “Brian was adamant that we retain the emotion and the impact of each song’s potential – with soaring and organic anthemic highs and crunching, floor-shaking lows. The production aesthetic was relentless and magnetic and the songs were organized to build a narrative of impressions – the aggressive coupled with the hopeful. None of the cleaner, more translucent, sonic moments that were present on Dead FM seemed relevant to the trajectory of this record. It was the quickest and easiest recording we’ve ever done.”
While slightly heavier and noisier than their previous releases, Iron Front features accessible songs that address global and personal issues like human rights, war, politics, and police brutality. Iron Front has more “roots” – more hardcore breakdowns and rhythms, darker melodic textures and fast-paced punk songs that dominate the album. Strike Anywhere has pushed the boundaries of their sound on this album, with soaring choruses coupled with dissonant and angular guitars and percussion. Drums were poured over and guitars were powered up on this recording for a more visceral and physical approach.
With the momentum of recording still on the forefront, Strike Anywhere set out on the road upon leaving the studio in Summer of 2009 for a US/Canadian jaunt with Propagandhi. For the remainder of this year, the band will headline the first official Bridge Nine Records Tour featuring labelmates Polar Bear Club, Crime In Stereo, and Ruiner throughout October and November. Following the B9 Tour, Strike will head overseas for a month-long excursion through Europe. 2010 will see Strike Anywhere doing what they do best: touring, touring touring. Canvassing every corner of planet Earth thus far in their career, including Latvia, Belarus, Japan, Brazil, Taiwan, Australia, and more, next year will be no different. With plans to bring SA’s new music to fans all over the world Barnett notes, “…the songs of Iron Front will only truly evolve once they are played and sung and brought into people’s lives, adapting to the listener’s personal truths and perceptions.” Iron Front will reach listeners everywhere October 6th, 2009 via Bridge Nine Records.
